All weapons must be checked in with Operations (Ops) as soon as possible following hotel check-in. There are no exceptions to this policy. All weapons must be non-working. Operations will approve and peace-bond any prop weapons. Permission to wear weapons is conditional on this approval by Ops, to whom all weapons should be brought. If you're not sure what constitutes a weapon, you should bring it to Ops anyway, just to be sure. You may think that a weapon which stays in your room and only comes out for the Maskerade does not need to be brought to Ops. You would be mistaken; ALL weapons need to be brought to Ops, as soon as possible following check-in. Any weapon that is used in an offensive, dangerous, or violent manner or has not been peace-bonded will be confiscated until the end of the convention. Please do not bring realistic-looking firearms to the con. Failure to comply with the weapons policy may result in your membership being revoked without refund. We expect you to use good judgment in order that everyone may have a safe and enjoyable convention.
Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while at the convention. Children aged 13 and up, remain the responsibility of their parent or guardian but may, at the parent's/guardian's discretion, attend events unaccompanied. Parents or guardians are responsible for and will be held accountable for all actions of and any damage caused by their children. RavenQuoth, Inc. assumes no responsibility for minors.
Memberships are sold as non-refundable. If a member discovers that they will be unable to attend, then they may sell their membership to another person as long as RavenQuoth, Inc. are notified of all of the details so that we can ensure that the new member is now registered with us. There are no physical membership "tickets" so the only proof of membership is registration on our membership database. Membership resales are possible up to 28 days prior to the start date of the Convention. Membership resales with less than 28 days to the start of the Convention are at the discretion of RavenQuoth, Inc., on a case by case basis.
All members are expected to be respectful of other members when capturing someone's image. Membership courtesy dictates that photographers/videographers seek approval before capturing the image of another. Posting of offensive or unseemly photographs of other members without expressed consent of the individual(s) is strictly prohibited. Commercial, photo, video, and audio rights reserved. Some events may not permit photography or videography. These events will be clearly indicated as a No Photo/Video event.
Purchasing alcohol for anyone under the age of 21 is strictly prohibited. Also, Louisiana law prohibits alcohol from being served in a hotel by anyone other than the hotel staff. Accordingly, no alcohol will be permitted on the convention floor unless it is purchased from the hotel.
The North American Discworld Convention 2017 is a family friendly event and we expect attendees to act appropriately. Members will abide by Federal and local law as well as all hotel policies. Remember that the hotel is a shared space and members should be courteous and respectful to hotel staff and guests as well as fellow con-goers. Violation of this policy will not be tolerated and may result in the removal of the offending individual(s) and their membership(s) being revoked without refund. Badges must be worn and displayed at all times while on the Program floors of the hotel, attending any program events, and in the ConSuite. Con attendees must show their badge to any Convention Committee member upon request.
It is important that con attendees feel safe and welcome at all con events. Therefore, in addition to basic decorum, con attendees are expected to abide by our harassment policy. Harassment includes, but is not exclusive to, offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, dress, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of programming or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Any harassment or inappropriate behavior toward other members will not be tolerated and may result in the removal of the offending individual(s) and their membership(s) being revoked without refund. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately (identifiable by having “ConCom” on their badges) or go to the Operations Desk. The North American Discworld Convention and its representatives will take all concerns seriously. All names involved will be kept confidential to the extent possible, but any accused person has the right to know enough details to be able to defend themselves.
Need an extra hand to get where you’re going? If you need seating by the aisle, space for a wheelchair or scooter, closer seating for hard of hearing or seeing, or otherwise, there is a system in place to help. Just look for the "ADA Ask Here" sign at registration. We will give you a Blue Dot to put on your badge which will be all you need for the entire convention. (You can also Go To Ops after picking up your registration pack and ask for a Blue Dot.)
Show the Blue Dot at the door for early entry to events, so you have a little extra time to get comfy before the regular Morporkians stampede. If you have a caretaker, guide, or indispensable friend along with you, your associate will not require a Blue Dot to follow you. Service animals are welcome. Please let Ops know any other needs you may have and Mrs Cosmopolite will see what she can do.
