NADWCon is a large event, which cannot function without the help of volunteers. Every member of the committee is a volunteer. However, there are only so many of us, and we couldn't do it without the help of gophers*. Volunteering is a wonderful way of meeting new people, and getting to see more parts of the convention you might not necessarily see throughout the weekend. We feel that for new attendees it is a great way to get into the flow of things, attending program items you never would have thought of going to on your own, and getting to know a lot of the other people at the convention. For all those interested in volunteering at the con you can: sign up when you get here; send us an email at email@example.com with Gopher in the subject line; or you can tick the appropriate box when you complete your membership registration. Let us know if there are any areas you are specialized in, or are of a particular interest to you. As a gopher*, you are free to volunteer for as little or as much as you want to, and if someone asks you to help but you want to attend a program item, have lunch or relax - feel free to say no. You're at the convention to have fun and if you enjoy volunteering we will not turn you away. Did you know, our Co-Chair Richard was actually the first ever gopher at the 1996 UK Discworld Convention?
*The term Gopher originated in 1956, and is an American English term for an "errand-runner", as in "Go for this, Go for that..." etc.
